A quick drive from our Alpharetta apartments is a 127-acre destination that strives to connect people to nature.
We’re talking about the Chattahoochee Nature Center, and with forest, wetland, and river habitats, it offers an experience unlike any other Atlanta attraction.
Eco Zipline Canopy Tour
Spend a day in the trees while seeing nature from a different perspective. The Eco Zipline Canopy Tour offers a ninety-minute hair-raising adventure that’s not soon forgotten. You’ll get up to 55 feet in the air, and zip twice over the scenic Beaver Pond.
River Canoe Trips
If you’re looking for something a less adventurous, don’t miss taking to the water during the river canoe trips. They’re led by a naturalist, and provide a unique introduction to the ecology of the Chattahoochee River. The guide will share stories about the river’s cultural and natural history, and the fun lasts approximately 2.5 hours. Both beginning and advanced paddlers are welcome.
The nature center is home to several wooded trails featuring an array of plants and year-round birding opportunities. Those not to be missed include:
Take a stroll along the Wildlife Walk to see a beaver splashing in her pond and chatty birds of prey in their aviaries. You’ll also discover a lush butterfly garden and educational signage.
Homestead is a short path named for the ruin of an old cabin. The house dates back to the 1940s, and all that remains is the chimney and concrete drive.
The Forest Trail leads hikers to the nature center’s highest point. It’s the steepest path, and dozens of trees, including yellow poplars and loblolly pines are found along the way. At the peak, explorers discover a family gravesite from the nineteenth century.
